Who We're Looking For
The Uptown String Band is looking for individuals that are interested in joining a professional organization that is family oriented. Our membership is organized with a variety of men and women ranging in age from 12 to 75. We’re more than the performance you see on New Year’s Day. Behind the 50-60 costumed performers we have in our presentation there are approximately another 75 members that move and coordinate our props and scenery. We also have another 20 or more members that don’t make it on the street on New Year’s Day that worry about the costuming and prepare the food for our organization.
If you want to be a part of a strong organization that pushes the limits of creativity to design and execute and elaborate Broadway-esque production, check us out.
Dancer
Along our captain's side are typically 6 to 8 primary dancers and 2 to 6 secondary dancers.
Musician
The band is comprised of saxophones (alto, tenor, baritone, bass), banjos, accordions, upright basses, and assorted percussion.
Marshal/Aide
Our "marshals" are the non-costumed members that are constantly helping the band in the background with our props, scenery and so much more.
Where You Can Find Us
You can come check us out at the Uptown Hall (831 Avenue D, Langhorne, PA 19047) every Tuesday night from 8PM to 10PM. The band rehearses music for performances throughout the year as well as our New Year’s Day routine every week.
However, we build and store our props and scenery at the “Annex” in Fairless Hill, PA, where we rehearse on Sundays from 11AM to 2PM starting in October. The band also hires a professional choreographer who works with the dancers in South Philadelphia.
We hold an open-door policy. Prospective members are welcome to walk through our doors any given Tuesday night to come see what the band is all about and what kind of environment we have. Feel free to stop by or you can always contact us via email if you have any questions prior to visiting.
How Do I Join?
Ever wanted to be a mummer? It all starts by walking through our doors. New members are asked to fill out an application that includes basic information. Musicians are subject to a simple music test from our Music Director when they feel they’re ready, making sure they’re prepared enough to represent the Uptown String Band. Dancers have to meet and work with our Drill Director in order to determine their skill level. And marshals go over the requirements with our Chief Marshal. Then you’re ready to start mumming!
If you’re ready to get started let us know. Take a few seconds to fill out the “Join Us” form below and one of our officers will get back to you at their earliest convenience.

What We Offer
Uptown Family
An organization that is built upon a history of fathers, mothers, sons and daughters. We are one of the most family oriented organizations in our hobby.
1st Place Mentality
Our organization is driven to be the best at all that we do; from fundraisers to performances to even rehearsals. We're not motivated by the competition of the parade but rather the pride and respect we have for our work and how we represent our band.
Bucks County Proud
As the only Mummers organization based in Bucks County, we do our best to contribute our charity work in our neighborhood and help other non-profit organizations in our area.
Post Modern Mum
Our musical style is some what unique from our peers. As a group with a comparatively younger membership, we enjoy playing more contemporary musical selections while still staying true to the traditional dixieland inspired mummer sound.
Mummers Media
The Uptown String Band can be seen in the news quite frequently from our New Year's Day production, local news coverage from our performances at parades and festivals, or even from one of our members, Jacky Bambam, who hosts the 7PM to midnight slot on 93.3 WMMR.
Beyond Broad Street
Traveling is a large component of our organization. Every year we perform in Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. And over the years we have even had the opportunity to perform in Michigan, Italy, New Orleans and more.
